Thai Son Nam FC and their coach Pham Minh Giang are among the nominees for the 2020 best of the world futsal awards.
Both Giang and his team will join Spanish coach Carlos César Núñez Gago of Thailand’s PTT Bluewave Chonburi Futsal Club to represent ASEAN for the 21st edition of the annual Futsalplanet Awards 2020.
Thai Son Nam FC and PTT Bluewave Chonburi Futsal Club will face Spain’s Barca and Movistar Inter FS, Brazil’s Magnus Futsal and Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, Iran’s Mes Sungun Varzaghan FSC, Russia’s MFK KPRF Moscow, Japan’s Nagoya Oceans and Portugal’s Sporting Clube de Portugal in the Best Club in the World category.
In the Best Club Coach in the World category, the two coaches face Spain’s David Ramos Barragán, Andreu Plaza Alvarez and FausTino Pérez-Moreno Gómez, Argentina’s Luciano Nicolás Antonelli, Croatia’s Duje Maretic, Portugal’s Nuno Sérgio Dos Santos Dias, Brazil’s Ricardo Di Izeppe “Ricardinho” and Georgia’s Besik Guramovich Zoidze.
Thai Son Nam took home the Vietnam Futsal League 2020 title with a thrashing 9-1 victory against Sanvinest Sanna Khanh Hoa last October.
The club’s fifth consecutive national league title helped the team automatically advance to the group stage of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Club Championship, scheduled between March 23 to April 3 in Kuwait. Vietnam is placed in Group A with Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Oman.
In case AFC Futsal Club Championship cannot take place due to the Covid-19, AFC said it would nominate teams from Vietnam, Thailand, Iran, Japan and Uzbekistan to 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania for achieving the best results in 2014-2018 tournaments.
Vietnam finished in the top 8 in 2014 and 2018, and top 4 in 2016. They currently stand in 44th place with 1,046 points in the world ranking.
